Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai Charitable Trust Board
Five (5) nominations have been received for the three vacancies on the Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai Charitable Trust Board. The candidates in alphabetical order are:

As the number of nominations exceed the number of vacancies, an election is required and will be conducted by postal and internet voting and by ballot box at the AGM. Voter packs, together with information about the candidates will be sent to all registered and verified adult members of the Trust from Friday 18th August 2017. Any member who does not receive a voting document or requires a replacement should ring the election helpline on 0800 666 928.
Postal and internet voting will close on Friday 15th September 2017.
Registered members of the Atiawa ki Whakarongotai Charitable Trust are reminded that the Annual General Meeting of the Trust will be held on Sunday 17th September 2017, 10am at Whakarongotai Marae, Waikanae. The agenda remains the same as advertised 27th July 2017.

Te Tīmatanga – Introduction
Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai Charitable Trust was established on 7 November 2005 as the Mandated Iwi Organisation and provides for the control, governance and operation of Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai.
Whakamarama – Definition
Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai means the iwi comprising every person who is descended from a primary ancestor of Te Ātiawa, Ngāti Tama, Ngāti Mutunga and Ngāti Maru Wharanui, such primary ancestors being those who remained living in Waikanae after 1848 and who identify with the land from Kūkūtauāki to Whareroa (seaward) inland to Pukemore and northward to Kapakapanui and Pukeatua to Ngāwhakangutu then westward to Kūkūtauāki.
Ngā Mātāpono – Principles
The Principles of Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai are guided by the words: “He korōria ki te Atua; He maungārongo ki te whenua; He whakaaro pai ki ngā tāngata katoa” and include: (a) the preservation and protection of the spiritual well-being of the Members of Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai; and (b) the preservation of the dignity and integrity of the Members of Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai; and (c) the advancement of the Members of Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai through the development of their social, cultural, economic and educational aspirations through competent leadership and the effective, efficient and totally accountable management of their commercial and non-commercial collective resources.
Kaupapa – Purposes
The purposes for which the Trust is established are to receive, hold, manage and administer the Trust Fund for every charitable purpose benefiting Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai whether it relates to the relief of poverty, the advancement of education or religion or any other matter beneficial to the community of Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai and all the members of Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai irrespective of where those members reside and for every such charitable purpose benefiting Māori who are not members of Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai; and members of the community generally.
