Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai Charitable Trust was established in 2005 under the framework offered by the Māori Fisheries Act 2004.  

As a charitable trust, Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai Board is responsible for the aspirations of Ngā Uri o Te Ātiawa ki Kāpiti and the strategic objectives of the trust. They are the representative body of the iwi, with a varied range of skills and expertise.
