Piri-Hira Tukapua
I’m a mokopuna of Hira Parata, who is a son of Natanahira, a son of Wi Te Kakakura Parata. I live and work in the local Kapiti-Horowhenua area and stay connected to our Iwi by attending various wananga, as well as supporting the 2021-22 cohort of Jobs for Nature.
I bring both business and governance experience, along with a positive, strategic, and excellent work ethic.
I’m a qualified Graphic Designer and Secondary School Teacher, with a Post Graduate Certificate in Maori and Indigenous Leadership from Canterbury University.
I’ve operated my primary business Taitoko Design & Print for 18 years and I’m a member of Te Rōpū Pakihi (the Kapiti Horowhenua Regional Māori Busi-ness Network), a Director of Raukawa Whanau Ora Ltd, a Trustee of the Fox-ton Area Medical Centre Trust, a Board Member of Birthright Levin Inc, Chair of Tokaanu Township 4A Trust and Chair of Paranui Marae, Ngāti Turanga of Ngati Raukawa ki te Tonga.
I’m also serving my fourth term as a Councillor on Horowhenua District Council and a member of the following committees there: Audit & Risk, Hearings & Bylaws, Chair of Community Grants & Funding, and Chair of Horowhenua Youth Services Network.
While self-employment and good time management provide the flexibility I need to fulfil all these roles and responsibilities well. I need to acknowledge my whanau and partner who support and enable me to do this and be mama of two toddlers.
