Tikanga Haumaru COVID-19 Pandemic Response Plan

There are so many great things about whānaungātangā: it’s core values include a wide range of relationships, like whānau and friendships grown from a shared kaupapa or interest.

Whakataka te hau ki te uru,
Whakataka te hau ki te tonga.
Kia mākinakina ki uta,
Kia mātaratara ki tai.
E hī ake ana te atākura he tio,
he huka, he hauhunga.
Haumi e! Hui e! Tāiki e!

Whānaungātangā

Ma pango, Ma whero, Ka Oti

Whanaungatangā enables the fostering of tuakana/teina relationships and reciprocity.

We are extremely grateful for the creativity and expertise of the many artists who have shared their rauemi with us to create the webpages as a response to the COVID-19 tāke.

We would like to acknowledge the following kaupapa for their koha and support. These relationships enabled us to mobilise our Iwi and has benefited our people and community. We were proud to share your artistry to promote key messages to our whanau, hāpu and iwi o Atiawa ki Whakarongotai.

Whānaungātangā has been described as the ‘relationship-glue’ that causes whanau to gather round, provide support and put the needs of the group before the needs of the individual. It is this sense of belonging and inclusion, that enable the kaupapa to flourish as whanau are able to draw on each others strengths and resources.

With this in mind, Te Rōpu Whakakaupapa Urutā, is a kaupapa that we recommend worthy of scoping as they are also guiding whanau Māori through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Te Rōpu Whakakaupapa Urutā is made up of Aotearoa’s leading Māori medical and health experts including Primary Care Specialists, Public Health experts, Public Health Physicians, Māori Nurses and iwi leaders. The information available from their website has been developed for whānau māori to ensure that we can cope with the pandemic levels.

To access their website and resources, please see below: ‘For Whānau Māori and For Iwi Māori’.
